A Versatile Engineering Platform for the Fabrication of Prosthetic Venous Valves Using Electrospinning

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Percutaneous prosthetic venous valves are fabricated by embedding stents in an electrospun matrix that extends luminally to form leaflets. The design shields leaflets from hyperplastic cells, isolates struts from blood contact, and avoids discrete anchoring points.

A Modular Bioinstructive Platform Reveals Mechanistic Insights into Additive‐Free, Topography‐Driven Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered microparticle topographies direct human mesenchymal stem cell osteogenesis without biochemical additives. This osteogenic commitment is driven by canonical Hedgehog signaling and followed by temporal IGF‐II engagement. Two‐photon polymerization demonstrates spatial control, enabling the engineering of topographical gradients that pattern ...

Fiber Glass Splints

Journal of Periodontology, 1979
Temporary splints to immobilize periodontally diseased teeth were made by fiber glass bonded and attached to the teeth with acid-etch technique with BIS-GMA resin. Twenty-one splints were made. Observation time ranged from 4 to 14 months. During the observation only one splint fractured and was repaired while the others functioned without failure.

Glass fiber dermatitis

American Journal of Industrial Medicine, 1985
AbstractMany workers exposed to glass fibers experience an intense pruritus (itching), sometimes accompanied by erythema, erosions, and dermatitis.Patch tests to glass fibers provoked a papulovesicular dermatitis in about 25% of normal persons. Workers in the glass wool industry, whether or not clinically symptomatic, had the same levels of patch‐test ...

Glass Fibers

2001
Abstract This article discusses the types, oxide composition, as well as mechanical and physical properties of general-purpose and special-purpose glass fibers. It describes the glass melting and fiber forming processes and provides information on important commercial products such as continuous roving, woven roving, fiberglass mat ...

Fluoride Glass Fibers

Advanced Photonics, 2011
Fluoride glass fibers have been first intensively developed for long haut telecommunication applications due to their ultra low theoretical optical loss (0.001 dB/km). After many years of intensive research, unfortunately, this goal has not been reached yet and remains a challenge.

Silica glass fiber photorefractometer

Applied Optics, 1992
We report a fiber-optic refractive-index sensor that is applicable to a long-distance measurement. The sensor consists of a silica glass fiber bent into a U shape with a bending radius of typically several hundred micrometers. The cladding at the tip of the sensor is stripped off.
