Finite size effects in simulations of glass dynamics [PDF]
We present the results of a molecular dynamics computer simulation in which we investigate the dynamics of silica. By considering different system sizes, we show that in simulations of the dynamics of this strong glass former surprisingly large finite size effects are present.

Effect of mixing and spatial dimension on the glass transition [PDF]
We study the influence of composition changes on the glass transition of binary hard disc and hard sphere mixtures in the framework of mode coupling theory. We derive a general expression for the slope of a glass transition line.

Glass fibre sizing: A review [PDF]
Glass fibre reinforcements form the backbone of a composites industry with a global annual production of more than 10 million tons of high performance, light-weight materials. Possibly the most critical component involved in the manufacture of glass fibres and their composites is the fibre sizing. Yet because of the intense level of secrecy surrounding

Effect of thermocompression on properties of transparent glass-ceramics containing quantum dots
A novel strategy for preparing transparent glass-ceramics with a uniform quantum-dot size and high transparency via thermocompression is reported. Borophosphate glass containing the Cs–Pb–Br component is prepared using the conventional melting method ...

Quantum confinement of Bi2S3 in glass with magnetic behavior
The novel Bi2S3 quantum dots (QDs) glass nanosystems with unique magnetic properties have been investigated. The monodispersed QDs of size in the range of 3 to 15 nm were grown in the glass matrix.

The sample size effect in metallic glass deformation
The sample size effect on deformation mode of glasses is one of the most misunderstood properties of this class of material. This effect is intriguing, since materials deemed macroscopically brittle become plastic at small size. We propose an explanation

Grain size effect on the compression and relaxation of a granular column: solid particles vs dust agglomerates [PDF]
We studied experimentally the effect of grain size and maximum load on the compaction and subsequent relaxation of a granular column when it is subjected to vertical uniaxial compression. The experiments were performed using two different types of grains:
