Glass and Glass-Ceramics

2012
The classic definition of glass is based on the historical method of formation: This is a very unusual way of defining any material. The result is that glass is now defined in several different ways.

Metallic Glasses

Science, 1975
The novel internal structures of metallic glasses lead to exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and ease of magnetization. Combined with low manufacturing costs, these properties make glassy ribbons attractive for many applications. These materials also have scientific fascination because their compositions, structures, and properties have ...

Glass lasers

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1966
After a general discussion of the merits of glass vs. crystals as host materials for laser ions, a summary is given of the various glass lasers. Because of its importance as an efficient, room temperature laser the properties of neodymium are considered in greater detail.

Theory of glass transition in spin glasses, orientational glasses and structural glasses

2008
Theoretical concepts about the glass transition are briefly reviewed, and the test of these ideas by Monte Carlo simulations of simple lattice models is described, with an emphasis on isotropic and anisotropic orientational glasses, and the bond fluctuation model of polymer melts.
