Outcomes and lessons learned from two decades' experience with glaucoma drainage device implantation for refractory Sturge Weber-associated childhood glaucoma.

Journal of AAPOS, 2021
PURPOSE To evaluate glaucoma drainage device (GDD) implantation for refractory pediatric glaucoma associated with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS). METHODS The medical records of consecutive children with SWS-associated glaucoma at a single center who were ...

Imaging of Glaucoma Drainage Devices

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 2012
Previously reserved for patients with refractory glaucoma, glaucoma drainage devices (GDDs) are being used more frequently as a primary treatment option. Several types of GDDs are currently manufactured, only one of which is radiopaque. Knowledge of their typical imaging appearance in addition to pertinent background information is therefore vital for ...

Preparation of 5-fluorouracil loaded chitosan microtube via in situ precipitation for glaucoma drainage device application: in vitro and in vivo investigation

Journal of Biomaterials Science. Polymer Edition, 2021
The main reason for the failure of glaucoma drainage devices is the chronic inflammatory reaction caused by the poor biocompatibility of biomaterials, which leads to the migration and proliferation of scleral fibroblasts surrounding the devices thus ...

Effect of Lens Status on the Outcomes of Glaucoma Drainage Device Implantation.

Ophthalmology Glaucoma
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of lens status and cataract surgery on glaucoma drainage device (GDD) efficacy. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SUBJECTS 243 eyes of 216 patients that underwent GDD implantation with ≥ one follow-up visit within 3 ...

Glaucoma Drainage Devices

2018
Glaucoma drainage devices (GDDs) are useful in the management of complex childhood glaucoma. They can be used as a primary procedure in certain circumstances or as a second procedure where more conventional surgery (e.g., angle surgery) has been performed and failed.

Outcomes of Second Trabeculectomy Versus Glaucoma Drainage Device in Juvenile Open Angle Glaucoma After Primary Trabeculectomy Failure

Journal of glaucoma
Précis: Second trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage device implantation offer similar success rates for juvenile open angle glaucoma after initial trabeculectomy failure. However, second trabeculectomies required fewer medications.

Novel Micromachined Valved Glaucoma Drainage Devices

2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006
In this work two novel valve devices are proposed for treatment of glaucoma. By opening or closing, the proposed valves can be used to reduce high pressures in the eye (hypertony), or prevent low pressures in the eye (hypotony) respectively. These devices work based on the buckling of fluid channel connected to the anterior chamber of the eye.

Diplopia after glaucoma drainage device implantation

Journal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, 2013
To determine incidence of diplopia after glaucoma drainage device (GDD) surgery and to report treatment outcomes.Financial claims data were used to identify patients who underwent GDD surgery (CPT [Current Procedural Terminology] 66180) at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute from January 2, 1991, through December 31, 2005. After a second claims data search,

Glaucoma drainage devices: pros and cons

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 1999
Glaucoma drainage devices are an option in the management of complicated glaucomas that carry a high risk of failure from conventional filtering surgery. Examples include the glaucomas associated with aphakia or pseudophakia, neovascular glaucoma, and glaucomas associated with trauma, uveitis, epithelial downgrowth, iridocorneal endothelial syndrome ...

Hypotonous malignant glaucoma following glaucoma drainage device implantation

, 2021
Malignant glaucoma also known as “aqueous misdirection” is a frightening complication post glaucoma surgery. The usual presentation is with high intraocular pressure with flat anterior chamber both centrally and peripherally.
