Globalization and the Convergence of Values
2017As the twentieth century comes to a close, the circumstances of individual nations – their affairs, news, and problems – have tended increasingly to reach and captivate global audiences. A predominant reason has been the economic importance of foreign countries.

Proving convergence of the various optimization algorithms is a delicate exercise. In general, it is helpful to consider local and global convergence patterns separately. The local convergence rate of an algorithm provides a useful benchmark for comparing it to other algorithms. On this basis, Newton’s method wins hands down. However, the tradeoffs are

Introduction: Difference and Convergence in Globalization
2005It is customary nowadays to accept that a cross-national and cross-regional production of knowledge and the integration of academic communities are no longer just an idea or a desire, but a given and an experience. In the process of globalization, it is often claimed and believed that academics in the humanities are empowered by a new set of ...

Global convergence and rate of convergence of a method of centers
Computational Optimization and Applications, 1994We consider a method of centers for solving constrained optimization problems. We establish its global convergence and that it converges with a linear rate when the starting point of the algorithm is feasible as well as when the starting point is infeasible. We demonstrate the effect of the scaling on the rate of convergence.

In this final chapter, we prove convergence results for general metric graphs and the associated graph-like manifolds. In particular, we show resolvent convergence, convergence of the discrete and essential spectrum and of resonances.

Globalization and the Environment: Convergence or Divergence?
2008In this comprehensive reference work, Kevin Gallagher has compiled a fresh and broad-ranging collection of expert voices commenting on the interdisciplinary field of trade and the environment. For over two decades policymakers and scholars have been struggling to understand the relationship between international trade in a globalizing world and its ...

On the Global Convergence of the Complex HZ Method
SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2019The paper considers a Jacobi method for solving the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = lambda Bx, where A and B are complex Hermitian matrices and B is positive definite. The method is a proper generalization of the standard Jacobi method for the Hermitian matrix A to the matrix pair (A, B).
