Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Fractal Markets Hypothesis and the Global Financial Crisis: Wavelet Power Evidence [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 3:2857, 2013, 2013
We analyze whether the prediction of the fractal markets hypothesis about a dominance of specific investment horizons during turbulent times holds. To do so, we utilize the continuous wavelet transform analysis and obtained wavelet power spectra which give the crucial information about the variance distribution across scales and its evolution in time ...

Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and

Quantifying instabilities in Financial Markets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Financial global crisis has devastating impacts to economies since early XX century and continues to impose increasing collateral damages for governments, enterprises, and society in general. Up to now, all efforts to obtain efficient methods to predict these events have been disappointing. However, the quest for a robust estimator of the degree of the

Cross-border Portfolio Investment Networks and Indicators for Financial Crises [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports (4), 3991, 2014, 2013
Cross-border equity and long-term debt securities portfolio investment networks are analysed from 2002 to 2012, covering the 2008 global financial crisis. They serve as network-proxies for measuring the robustness of the global financial system and the interdependence of financial markets, respectively. Two early-warning indicators for financial crises

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Integration or fragmentation? A closer look at euro area financial markets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper examines the degree of integration at euro area financial markets. To that end, we estimate overall and country-specific integration indices based on a panel vector-autoregression with factor stochastic volatility. Our results indicate a more heterogeneous bond market compared to the market for lending rates.

Financial Globalization And The Russian Crisis Of 1998 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Russia had more-or-less completed the privatization of its manufacturing and natural resource sectors by the end of 1997. And in February 1998, the annual inflation rate at last dipped into the single digits. Privatization should have helped with stronger micro-foundations for growth.

Replenishing co‐downregulated miR‐100‐5p and miR‐125b‐5p in malignant germ cell tumors causes growth inhibition through cell cycle disruption

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1203-1228, April 2025.
MiR‐99a‐5p/miR‐100‐5p (functionally identical) and miR‐125b‐5p microRNAs are downregulated in malignant germ cell tumors (GCTs). Combination replenishment of these microRNAs using mimics resulted in growth inhibition in representative cell lines, with consequent downregulation of target genes involved in cell cycle (confirmed by flow cytometry) and ...
