Doppler global velocimetry data in circular jets

Measurement Science and Technology, 2002
A two-component Doppler global velocimeter?(DGV) system has been improved through the use of vapour-limited iodine cells that have temperature-independent responses, along with nonpolarizing beam splitters and lower f-number lenses. Two-component DGV velocity measurements have been obtained for a 1?inch diameter uniform circular jet flow at a ...

Secondary Global Modes of Variable-Density Jets

5th AIAA Theoretical Fluid Mechanics Conference, 2008
We conjecture that this behavior may be explained by a change in the local properties of the secondary instability from convective to absolute in nature. For any axial location in the jet, the local secondary stability properties are found by constructing ‘locally periodic’ base flows corresponding to the saturated primary instability passing by a ...

Global linear stability analysis of jets in cross-flow

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2017
The stability of low-speed jets in cross-flow (JICF) is studied using tri-global linear stability analysis (GLSA). Simulations are performed at a Reynolds number of 2000, based on the jet exit diameter and the average velocity. A time stepper method is used in conjunction with the implicitly restarted Arnoldi iteration method. GLSA results are shown to

Global capillary instability of an inclined jet

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1997
The primary goal of the paper is to demonstrate that a circular jet of inviscid liquid, which issues from a nozzle at an angle to the gravitational field, can sustain a self-excited linear global mode. The mode is found for the flow that is locally convectively unstable at every point, i.e. has no region of local absolute instability.
