Experimental evaluation of global maximum power point techniques under partial shading conditions

Solar Energy, 2020
Abstract Shading plays an important role in the operation of photovoltaic (PV) systems, especially when one of the cells or modules in the string is submitted to lower irradiance levels due to partial shading (PS). As a result of this condition, the cells or modules absorb the power generated by the unshaded parts, thus causing hot spots that can ...

Dragonfly Algorithm Based Global Maximum Power Point Tracker for Photovoltaic Systems

2016
This paper presents the application of the Dragonfly Algorithm (DA) for tracking the Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP) of a photovoltaic (PV) system. Optimization techniques employed for GMPP tracking (GMPPT) are required to be fast and efficient in order to reduce the tracking time and energy loss respectively. The DA, being a meta-heuristic algorithm

On-line global maximum power point (GMPP) identification of solar PV plants

2018 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2018
This paper introduces an algorithm to identify the global maximum power point (GMPP) of a solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant while operating under the partial shade condition (PSC) or fault condition (FC). Conventionally a complete current vs. voltage (or I-V) curve of the faulty PV array is swept to identify the GMPP.

A Novel Global Maximum Power Point Tracking Scheme Under Partially Shaded Conditions

2013
Under partially shaded conditions (PSCs), multiple peaks appear on the power-voltage curve of the photovoltaic (PV) array, which makes it difficult to track the global maximum power point. To address this issue, we first analyze the nonlinear characteristic of PV array under PSCs.

Global Maximum Power Point Tracking Scheme on a Partially Shaded Photovoltaic Array

IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018
This paper proposes an algorithm capable of estimate the global maximum power point of a large photovoltaic (PV) array system operating under partially shaded conditions. The power-voltage characteristic of a photovoltaic array is a nonlinear function that becomes more complex under partial shading conditions, in fact, the power-voltage curve may ...

Neural network based global maximum power point tracking under partially shaded conditions

2015 23rd Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, 2015
Partial shading changes characteristics of a solar panel and creates a number of local maximum power points (MPPs) that only one of them is the global MPP. On the other hand measurement of light intensity is quite hard and requires use of specialized sensors.

Experimental implementation of an electronic load for global maximum power point tracking

2016 IEEE 2nd Annual Southern Power Electronics Conference (SPEC), 2016
This work deals with the partial shading effect in the power curve of a PV solar array. Using a semiconductor device — MOSFET or IGBT — as electronic load added to a buck converter, it is possible to scan the power curve of a photovoltaic string and therefore empirically determine its optimum voltage, even in presence of partial shading.
