AbstractChapter 6 examines the transnationalization of the John of God movement, focusing particularly on the ways it puts down roots in the West. It argues that, in a seeming paradox, the John of God movement is able to grow outside Brazil because there is a strong pull in the opposite direction—toward Abadiânia.
