Stochastic global optimisation algorithms
2022This thesis addresses aspects of stochastic algorithms for the solution of global optimisation problems. The bulk of the research investigates algorithm models of the adaptive search variety. Performances of stochastic and deterministic algorithms are also compared.Chapter 2 defines pure adaptive search, the prototypical improving region search scheme ...

Rational swarm for global optimisation
International Journal of System Control and Information Processing, 2012In this paper, we propose a novel bio–inspired multi–agent co–operative searching methodology for global optimisation, named Rational Swarm algorithm. It can be used both as a meta–heuristic guiding local search algorithm and as a high–level multi–agent co–operative searching strategy to coordinate multiple agents using meta–heuristics.

Global optimisation by evolutionary algorithms
Proceedings of IEEE International Symposium on Parallel Algorithms Architecture Synthesis, 2002Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) are a class of stochastic search algorithms which are applicable to a wide range of problems in learning and optimisation. They have been applied to numerous problems in combinatorial optimisation, function optimisation, artificial neural network learning, fuzzy logic system learning, etc.

Global Optimisation Strategies for Nanoalloys
2017The computational prediction of thermodynamically stable metal cluster structures has developed into a sophisticated and successful field of research. To this end, research groups have developed, combined and improved algorithms for the location of energetically low-lying structures of unitary and alloy clusters containing several metallic species.

Global optimisation of interplanetary trajectories [PDF]
This thesis introduces and explores the full global interplanetary trajectory optimisation problem. The biggest challenges in this field are expensive objective function evaluations, the size and multimodality of the search space, a requirement for good initial solutions to initialise search algorithms, the need for manual input and separate solutions ...
