Global Approximations to Cost and Production Functions using Artificial Neural Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2009
The estimation of cost and production functions in economics usually relies on standard specifications which are less that satisfactory in numerous situations.

Global production chains in the fast fashion sector, transports and logistics: the case of the Spanish retailer Inditex

open access: yesInvestigaciones Geográficas, 2014
Recent geographical analyses of global production networks in different economic sectors demonstrate that little attention has been paid to the logistical and transport systems through which networks are fully integrated. This paper on Inditex, a leading

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Friend-Shoring Versus Near-Shoring: A Counterfactual Network Analysis of Differential Impacts on China’s Position in Global Value Chains

open access: yesSystems
The U.S. strategies of “friend-shoring” and “near-shoring,” aimed at enhancing supply chain autonomy, are profoundly restructuring global production networks.

Production Networks in East Asia: What We Know So Far [PDF]

open access: yes
Production networks in East Asia, particularly in the manufacturing and machinery industries, are well recognized as the most advanced in the world, in terms of their magnitude, extensiveness, and sophistication. This paper tries to link various economic

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Local-global geographies of tacit knowledge production in London and New York's advertising and law professional service firms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
For economic geographers interest in the role of knowledge in economic activities and a ‘knowledge economy’ raises questions about how geography enables (and disables) learning and whether the production of tacit knowledge has exclusively local or ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Foreign direct investment and integration into global production and distribution networks : the case of Poland [PDF]

open access: yes
Not until the end of the twentieth century, the"second globalization,"has the ratio of trade to Gross Domestic Product been comparable to that during the first globalization, which took place at the end of the nineteenth century and was interrupted by ...
