Spectrum-generating Symmetries for BPS Solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We show that there exist nonlinearly realised duality symmetries that are independent of the standard supergravity global symmetries, and which provide active spectrum-generating symmetries for the fundamental BPS solitons.

Supersymmetric SYK model with global symmetry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
Abstract In this paper, we introduce an $$ \mathcal{N}=1 $$ N = 1 supersymmetric SYK model with SO(q) global symmetry.

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Parameter counting in models with global symmetries

open access: yes, 2008
We present rules for determining the number of physical parameters in models with exact flavor symmetries. In such models the total number of parameters (physical and unphysical) needed to described a matrix is less than in a model without the symmetries.

Global Topology and Local Violation of Discrete Symmetries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Cosmological models that are locally consistent with general relativity and the standard model in which an object transported around the universe undergoes P, C and CP transformations, are constructed.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Empirical consequences of symmetries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
`Global' symmetries, such as the boost invariance of classical mechanics and special relativity, can give rise to direct empirical counterparts such as the Galileo-ship phenomenon. However, a widely accepted line of thought holds that `local' symmetries,

Absolute Stability and Spatiotemporal Long-Range Order in Floquet systems

open access: yes, 2016
Recent work has shown that a variety of novel phases of matter arise in periodically driven Floquet systems. Among these are many-body localized phases which spontaneously break global symmetries and exhibit novel multiplets of Floquet eigenstates ...

Fate of global symmetries in the Universe: QCD axion, quintessential axion and trans-Planckian inflaton decay-constant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Pseudoscalars appearing in particle physics are reviewd systematically. From the fundamental point of view at an ultra-violat completed theory, they can be light if they are realized as pseudo-Goldstone bosons of some spontaneously broken global ...

RNA quaternary structure and global symmetry [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Biochemical Sciences, 2015
Many proteins associate into symmetric multisubunit complexes. Structural analyses suggested that, by contrast, virtually all RNAs with complex 3D structures function as asymmetric monomers. Recent crystal structures revealed that several biological RNAs exhibit global symmetry at the level of their tertiary and quaternary structures.
