Sterile neutrinos and global symmetries [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2005
We use an effective-field-theory approach to construct models with naturally light sterile neutrinos, due to either exact or accidental global symmetries. The most attractive models we find are based on gauge symmetries, either discrete or continuous. We give examples of simple models based on Z_N, U(1)', and SU(2)'.

Dyson’s classification and real division superalgebras

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
It is well-known that unitary irreducible representations of groups can be usefully classified in a 3-fold classification scheme: Real, Complex, Quaternionic.

Lifting M-theory to Two-Time Physics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
M-theory has different global supersymmetry structures in its various dual incarnations, as characterized by the M-algebra in 11D, the type IIA, type-IIB, heterotic, type-I extended supersymmetries in 10D, and non-Abelian supersymmetries in the AdS_n x S^

Non-invertible symmetries from discrete gauging and completeness of the spectrum

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We study global 1- and (d − 2)-form symmetries for gauge theories based on disconnected gauge groups which include charge conjugation. For pure gauge theories, the 1-form symmetries are shown to be non-invertible.

A particle model with extra dimensions from coadjoint Poincaré symmetry

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
Starting from the coadjoint Poincaré algebra we construct a point particle relativistic model with an interpretation in terms of extra-dimensional variables.

Non-invertible Gauss law and axions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
In axion-Maxwell theory at the minimal axion-photon coupling, we find non-invertible 0- and 1-form global symmetries arising from the naive shift and center symmetries.

Global Anomalies in the Batalin Vilkovisky Quantization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The Batalin Vilkovisky (BV) quantization provides a general procedure for calculating anomalies associated to gauge symmetries. Recent results show that even higher loop order contributions can be calculated by introducing an appropriate regularization ...

Note on Discrete Gauge Anomalies

open access: yes, 1991
We consider the probem of gauging discrete symmetries. All valid constraints on such symmetries can be understood in the low energy theory in terms of instantons.

Ghost Cohomologies and Hidden Space-Time Symmetries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We observe and study new non-linear global space-time symmetries of the full ghost+matter action of RNS superstring theory. We show that these surprising new symmetries are generated by the special worldsheet currents (vertex operators) of RNS ...

Mixed anomalies, two-groups, non-invertible symmetries, and 3d superconformal indices

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Mixed anomalies, higher form symmetries, two-group symmetries and non-invertible symmetries have proved to be useful in providing non-trivial constraints on the dynamics of quantum field theories.
