Geographical Distribution of Thermometers Gives the Appearance of Lower Historical Global Warming [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
AbstractGaps with missing data in the observational temperature record are responsible for an underestimation of the global warming between 1881–1910 and 1986–2015 by 0.1 °C. We found that missing data in the historical observations introduce a warm bias in the early part of the record and a cold bias toward the end.

OmpA, a Common Virulence Factor, Is Under RNA Thermometer Control in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
The outer membrane protein OmpA is a virulence factor in many mammalian pathogens. In previous global RNA structure probing studies, we found evidence for a temperature-modulated RNA structure in the 5'-untranslated region (5'-UTR) of the Yersinia ...

Berry Phase Quantum Thermometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We show how Berry phase can be used to construct an ultra-high precision quantum thermometer. An important advantage of our scheme is that there is no need for the thermometer to acquire thermal equilibrium with the sample. This reduces measurement times

Leveraging Social Media as a Thermometer to Gauge Patient and Caregiver Concerns: COVID-19 and Prostate Cancer

open access: yesEuropean Urology Open Science, 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically impacted society and health care on a global scale. To capture the lived experience of patients with prostate cancer and family members/caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we performed a mixed-methods study of ...

Aging dynamics of heterogeneous spin models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate numerically the dynamics of three different spin models in the aging regime. Each of these models is meant to be representative of a distinct class of aging behavior: coarsening systems, discontinuous spin glasses, and continuous spin ...

Side Effects of Mercury Based Clinical Thermometer and India’s Trade Performance to Select Countries – an Analysis

open access: yes, 2021
A clinical thermometer is a device that tests the temperature of a person’s body. Thermometers are now commonplace not only in hospitals and clinics, but even in offices, institutes, and even several households.
