Globular cluster formation and evolution in the context of cosmological galaxy assembly: open questions. [PDF]

open access: yesProc Math Phys Eng Sci, 2018
We discuss some of the key open questions regarding the formation and evolution of globular clusters (GCs) during galaxy formation and assembly within a cosmological framework.

Globular cluster star classification: Application to M13 [PDF]

open access: diamondSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2013
Starting from recent determination of Fe, O, Na abundances on a restricted sample (N = 67) of halo and thick disk stars, a natural and well motivated selection criterion is defined for the classification globular cluster stars. An application is

A repeating fast radio burst source in a globular cluster [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2021
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are flashes of unknown physical origin1. The majority of FRBs have been seen only once, although some are known to generate multiple flashes2,3.

Advancing globular cluster constraints on the axion-photon coupling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2022
We improve the current upper bound on the axion-photon coupling derived from stellar evolution using the R 2 parameter, the ratio of stellar populations on the Asymptotic Giant Branch to Horizontal Branch in Globular Clusters.

Revisiting Physical Properties of Mock Globular Cluster Tidal Tails

open access: goldThe Astrophysical Journal
In this work, we present results of the first in-depth analysis of extra-tidal mock stars of Milky Way globular clusters recently generated by S. M. Grondin et al.

Proper motions and dynamics of the Milky Way globular cluster system fromGaiaDR2 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
We use Gaia Data Release 2 to determine the mean proper motions for 150 Milky Way globular clusters (almost the entire known population), with a typical uncertainty of 0.05 mas/yr limited mainly by systematic errors. Combining them with distance and line-

Prospects for Detecting Fast Radio Bursts in the Globular Clusters of Nearby Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The recent detection of a repeating fast radio burst (FRB) in an old globular cluster in M81 challenges traditional FRB formation mechanisms based on the magnetic activity of young neutron stars formed in core-collapse supernovae.

What is a globular cluster? An observational perspective [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomy and Astrophysics Review, 2019
Globular clusters are large and dense agglomerate of stars. At variance with smaller clusters of stars, they exhibit signs of some chemical evolution.

The formation and hierarchical assembly of globular cluster populations [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
We use a semi-analytic model for globular cluster (GC) formation built on dark matter merger trees to explore the relative role of formation physics and hierarchical assembly in determining the properties of GC populations.

High-precision Dark Halo Virial Masses from Globular Cluster Numbers: Implications for Globular Cluster Formation and Galaxy Assembly [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomical Journal, 2019
We confirm that the number of globular clusters (GCs), NGC, is an excellent tracer of their host galaxy’s halo virial mass, Mvir. The simple linear relation Mvir = 5 × 109 M⊙ × NGC fits the data perfectly from Mvir = 1010 M⊙ to Mvir = 2 × 1015 M⊙.
