Relativistic Binaries in Globular Clusters

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Relativity, 2013
Galactic globular clusters are old, dense star systems typically containing 10^4 – 10^6 stars. As an old population of stars, globular clusters contain many collapsed and degenerate objects. As a dense population of stars, globular clusters are the scene

The first gigayear of bulge star formation in Virgo ellipticals: constraints from their globular cluster systems

open access: yes, 2010
Data products from the Advanced Camera for Surveys Virgo Cluster Survey are used to understand the bulge star formation history in early-type galaxies at redshifts z > 2.

Collisionless dynamics in globular clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2012
Since globular clusters (GCs) are old, low-N systems their dynamics is widely believed to be fully dominated by collisional two-body processes, and their surface brightness profiles are fit by King models. However, for many GCs, especially those with HST-resolved central regions, and `extra-tidal' features, King models provide poor fits.

Is the M81 Fast Radio Burst Host Globular Cluster Special?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We use multiband archival Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations to measure the photometric and structural parameters of the M81 globular cluster (GC) that hosts the fast radio burst FRB 20200120E. Our best-fitting King model has an effective radius r

A WFC3/HST VIEW OF THE THREE STELLAR POPULATIONS IN THE GLOBULAR CLUSTER NGC 6752 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Multi-band Hubble Space Telescope photometry reveals that the main sequence, sub-giant, and the red-giant branch of the globular cluster NGC 6752 splits into three main components in close analogy with the three distinct segments along its horizontal ...

Unveiling black holes ejected from globular clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Was the black hole in XTE J1118+480 ejected from a globular cluster or kicked away from the galactic disk?Comment: 2 pages, newpasp.sty. To appear in "New Horizons in Globular Cluster Astronomy", eds. G. Piotto, G.

Extragalactic globular clusters. II - The M31 globular cluster system

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
Metallicities for 150 globular clusters associated with M31 are derived using the strengths of six absorption features in the cluster-integrated spectra. The properties of the M31 cluster system are very similar to those of the Galactic system. No dependence of metallicity on cluster luminosity is found.

The Globular Cluster System of the Galaxy NGC 6876

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
We present preliminary results of the deep photometric study of the elliptical galaxy NGC 6876, located at the center of the Pavo group, and its globular cluster system.

Star-Forming Galaxies at z~2 and the Formation of the Metal-Rich Globular Cluster Population

open access: yes, 2010
We examine whether the super star-forming clumps (R~1-3 kpc; M~10^8-10^9.5 Msun) now known to be a key component of star-forming galaxies at z~2 could be the formation sites of the locally observed old globular cluster population.
