Cracking the Relation Between Mass and 1P-star Fraction of Globular Clusters. III. Initial Distributions of In Situ and Ex Situ Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galactic globular clusters consist of two main stellar populations, the pristine (1P) and polluted (2P) stars. The fraction of 1P stars in clusters, F _1P , is a decreasing function of the present-day cluster mass, m _prst . The information about cluster

An Ongoing Tidal Capture in the Large Magellanic Cloud: The Low-mass Star Cluster KMK 88-10 Captured by the Massive Globular Cluster NGC 1835?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In the context of a project aimed at characterizing the dynamical evolution of old globular clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud, we have secured deep HST/WFC3 images of the massive cluster NGC 1835.

The Observational and Theoretical Tidal Radii of Globular Clusters in M87

open access: yes, 2012
Globular clusters have linear sizes (tidal radii) which theory tells us are determined by their masses and by the gravitational potential of their host galaxy.

Data‐driven discovery of gene expression markers distinguishing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates gene expression differences between two major pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) subtypes, B‐cell precursor ALL, and T‐cell ALL, using a data‐driven approach consisting of biostatistics and machine learning methods. Following analysis of a discovery dataset, we find a set of 14 expression markers differentiating the ...

The SLUGGS Survey: wide field imaging of the globular cluster system of NGC 4278 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We use multipointing Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys and wide field Subaru Suprime-Cam imaging to study the globular cluster system of the L ∗ elliptical galaxy NGC 4278.

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

The Extended Baryonic Halo of NGC 3923

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
Galaxy halos and their globular cluster systems build up over time by the accretion of small satellites. We can learn about this process in detail by observing systems with ongoing accretion events and comparing the data with simulations.

RUPRECHT 106: THE FIRST SINGLE POPULATION GLOBULAR CLUSTER? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
All old Galactic globular clusters (GCs) studied in detail to date host at least two generations of stars, where the second is formed from gas polluted by processed material produced by massive stars of the first.

Star-Forming Galaxies at z~2 and the Formation of the Metal-Rich Globular Cluster Population

open access: yes, 2010
We examine whether the super star-forming clumps (R~1-3 kpc; M~10^8-10^9.5 Msun) now known to be a key component of star-forming galaxies at z~2 could be the formation sites of the locally observed old globular cluster population.
