Gamma-rays from electrons accelerated by rotating magnetized White Dwarfs in Globular Clusters
Recently a substantial part of globular cluster population has been established as GeV gamma-ray sources by the Fermi-LAT telescope. We investigate possible production of the high energy gamma-rays by relativistic electrons injected from the population ...

Globular Cluster Distance Determinations [PDF]
The present status of the distance scale to Galactic globular clusters is reviewed. Six distance determination techniques which are deemed to be most reliable are discussed in depth. These different techniques are used to calibrate the absolute magnitude

The dynamics of a close binary system of globular clusters is considered. It is shown that the star transfer process from one of the components to the other should lead to the decrease of dimension of the first cluster with simultaneous increase of the dimension of the second cluster.

Mergers of Globular Clusters [PDF]
Globular clusters with composite color-magnitude diagrams, such as NGC 1851, NGC 2808 and Fornax No. 3, might have formed by mergers. It is suggested that each of these objects had two parent clusters, one with a red horizontal branch and another with a blue horizontal branch.

In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

HST Imaging of Globular Clusters in the Edge--on Spiral Galaxies NGC 4565 and NGC 5907
We present a study of the globular cluster systems of two edge-on spiral galaxies, NGC4565 and NGC5907, from WFPC2 images in the F450W and F814W filters.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Two views of globular cluster stars in the Galactic halo
In [1] we reported the discovery in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-II/SEGUE spectroscopic database of a small subset of halo red giants, 2.5%, with CN and CH band strengths indicative of globular-cluster-like carbon and nitrogen abundances.

Structure of Globular Clusters [PDF]
There was a time, more than a century ago, when Astronomy & Astrophysics was not a European Journal yet, but still an American one. In its Vol. XII, Bailey (1893) published, from photographic observations of two globular clusters (GCs), ω Centauri and 47 Tucanae, what were probably the first extensive star counts, which represent the oldest ...

The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).
