Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Relativistic Binaries in Globular Clusters

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Relativity, 2002
The galactic population of globular clusters are old, dense star systems, with a typical cluster containing $10^4 - 10^6$ stars. As an old population of stars, globular clusters contain many collapsed and degenerate objects.

Variable stars in the VVV globular clusters

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The VVV survey observed some of the most crowded and most obscured regions in the inner MilkyWay during the last years. A significant sample of the less known globular clusters in our galaxy lie there.

Multiple populations in globular clusters. Lessons learned from the Milky Way globular clusters

open access: yes, 2012
Recent progress in studies of globular clusters has shown that they are not simple stellar populations, being rather made of multiple generations. Evidence stems both from photometry and spectroscopy.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

APOGEE physical properties of globular cluster tidal tails

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
A recent model prediction claimed that there is a correlation between the formation scenarios of globular clusters (i.e., whether they formed in situ or in dark matter halos that were accreted into the Milky Way) and some properties of their tidal tails,

Missing for 20 yr: MeerKAT Redetects the Elusive Binary Pulsar M30B

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
PSR J2140−2311B is a 13 ms pulsar discovered in 2001 in a 7.8 hr Green Bank Telescope observation of the core-collapsed globular cluster M30 and predicted to be in a highly eccentric binary orbit.

SIZES OF GALACTIC GLOBULAR CLUSTERS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2012
A study is made of deviations from the mean power-law relationship between the Galactocentric distances and the half-light radii of Galactic globular clusters. Surprisingly, deviations from the mean R_h versus R_gc relationship do not appear to correlate with cluster luminosity, cluster metallicity, or horizontal branch morphology. Differences in orbit

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
