Dependence of Allium fistulosum cultivars on the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Glomus fasciculatum
Applied Soil Ecology, 2001We screened 27 cultivars of Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum) for dependency on arbuscular mycorrhizal colonisation. Root length was different among cultivars. All cultivars were well colonised with Glomus fasciculatum, the percentage mycorrhizal colonisation ranging from 48 to 81%.

This study examined which culture fraction of the plant-growth-promoting bacterium Pseudomonas putida (Trevisan) Migula has an effect on growth and mycorrhiza formation of maize (Zea mays L.). Shoot dry weight and total leaf area of plants did not increase after inoculation with Glomus fistulosum but were significantly higher than the controls when the

Proliferation of intraradical hyphae of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus fistulosum was observed and measured in surface disinfected mycorrhizal maize root segments in an aseptic cultivation system. The maximum growth of hyphae proliferating from the root segments was observed at pH 6·3, and low concentrations of buffering substances stabilized

Effects of two oligoamines, putrescine and spermine, on proliferation of intraradical hyphae in surface disinfected root segments were studied under axenic conditions in vitro. No significant effects of putrescine were observed. Spermine significantly stimulated hyphal growth at a concentration of about 1.5 mumol/L.

Abstract Among different fractions of liquid Pseudomonas putida culture (living bacterial cells, crude cell extract and low molecular – MW 10 000 fractions) the low molecular fraction showed stimulatory effects on the growth of extraradical mycelium of arbuscular-mycorrhizal fungus Glomus fistulosum Skou and Jakobsen and its alkaline phosphatase ...
