CASE REPORT: GLOMUS JUGULOTYMPANICUM

open access: yes, 2022
Paragangliomas or glomus tumors arise from neural crest derivatives of the autonomic nervoussystem. They account for 0,6% of all head and neck tumors. Glomus jugulare tumors are located in the jugular foramen and are derivatives of the paraganglia in the

Glomus Jugulare Tumor: Selective Catecholamine Screening – A Golden Miss?

open access: yes, 2017
Glomus jugulare tumor is a type of paraganglioma which has an association with catecholamine secretion but only in < 5% of cases. Any such occult or undetected catecholamine-secreting tumor poses anesthetic challenges in the perioperative period.

Frequency‐Dependent Neural Activity in Patients with Unilateral Vascular Pulsatile Tinnitus

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Previous resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs‐fMRI) studies have shown that neurological changes are important findings in vascular pulsatile tinnitus (PT) patients. Here, we utilized rs‐fMRI to measure the amplitude of low‐frequency fluctuations (ALFF) in forty patients with unilateral PT and forty age‐, gender‐, and education ...

The Endoscopic Versus Open Approach for Anterior Skull Base Tumors: A Systematic Review of Comparative Outcomes and a Framework for Surgical Selection

open access: yesNeurology Research International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background Anterior skull base tumors (ASBTs) pose significant surgical challenges due to their proximity to critical neurovascular structures. Surgical management has evolved with the adoption of both endoscopic and open approaches. This systematic review synthesizes evidence comparing these approaches in terms of complications, outcomes, and ...

Incidence of cranial nerve palsy after preoperative embolization of glomus jugulare tumors using Onyx

open access: yes, 2014
The resection of glomus jugulare tumors can be challenging because of their inherent vascularity. Preoperative embolization has been advocated as a means of reducing operative times, blood loss, and surgical complications.

Dark Blood Contrast‐Enhanced Brain MRI Using Echo‐uT1RESS

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 789-797, August 2024.
Background The widely used magnetization‐prepared rapid gradient‐echo (MPRAGE) sequence makes enhancing lesions and blood vessels appear bright after gadolinium administration. However, dark blood imaging using T1‐weighted Sampling Perfection with Application optimized Contrast using different flip angle Evolution (T1 SPACE) can be advantageous since ...

A Case of Secretory Glomus Jugulare [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Journal Armed Forces India, 2007
Glomus jugulare tumours are highly vascular tumours arising from the chief cells of the paraganglia in the adventitia of the dome of the jugular bulb. Estimated incidence is 1 per 1.3 million population,of which 1- 5% are malignant [1, 2]. The benign tumours are locally aggressive. Growth rate is about 0.8mm per year [3].
