Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2025.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Subungual Epidermoid Inclusions–A Series of 8 Cases and a Review of Literature

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous Pathology, Volume 52, Issue 9, Page 574-579, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Subungual epidermoid inclusions (SEI) are benign cystic lesions of the nail bed. To our knowledge, there has been only one case series describing SEI. We report eight cases of SEI. The patients had a median age of 72 years (range 3–84) with a female: male ratio of 1.6. Five occurred in toenails and three in fingernails.

Cochlear Implantation for Sensorineural Hearing Loss Related to Cochlear Aqueduct Obstruction by a Jugular Foramen Tumor

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 10, Issue 4, August 2025.
Patients with jugular foramen tumors may have sensorineural hearing loss unrelated to direct cochlear or 8th nerve involvement. Cochlear implantation can be employed to rehabilitate hearing in this setting. ABSTRACT Introduction Cochlear implantation (CI) may be used as a viable method for restoring hearing in patients with sensorineural hearing loss ...

Intra‐Operative Onychoscopy of Subungual Epidermoid Inclusions

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, Volume 52, Issue 8, Page 1314-1316, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Subungual epidermoid inclusions (SEI) are small epithelial inclusions, sometimes solid but mostly with central keratinization of the onycholemmal type without a granular layer. Exceptionally, they become large enough to produce symptoms such as pain or swelling of the nail bed, resulting in subungual keratosis, onycholysis, or a dystrophic ...
