Helobdella papillornata, an Australian freshwater leech, feeds primarily on snails and has a high level of parental care involving brooding eggs and young, with direct feeding of young. Parental costs and offspring benefits from these behaviours are poorly understood. A potential cost of parental care may be a change in the time taken to hunt prey.

Placobdella pediculataHemingway, 1908 was originally described from individuals that were attached to Aplodinotus grunniens (freshwater drum) in Lake Pepin, Minnesota, USA. Apparently, no type material was deposited. The acquisition of contemporary specimens from its type host in the type locality facilitated redescription of P. pediculata. Placobdella

Haementeria costata (Hirudinea: Glossiphoniidae), a leech new to Britain
Freshwater Biology, 1979SUMMARY. The European leech Haementeria costata is recorded in Britain for the first time and is described in detail. A key is provided to distinguish H. costata from other species of leeches in Britain, and the literature on the ecology of H. costata is summarized.

The life-cycle and feeding of the African freshwater leechHelobdella conifer(Glossiphoniidae)
South African Journal of Zoology, 1997The life-cycle, breeding and feeding of the fresh water leech Helobdella conifera were examined in the laboratory. The life-cycle is annual with the young brooded by the parent for the first two months after hatching. Sexual maturity is attained two months after leaving the parent when the first batch of eggs are produced and the young brooded.

Analysis of the food niche of Glossiphonia complanata (Hirudinoidea: Glossiphoniidae)
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1979The food niche of Glossiphonia complanata was evaluated in the field using a serological technique. The feeding ecology of the species was similar in the two field sites examined, both populations displaying similar trends in prey utilization on a temporal and weight (size–age) basis. Field "prey range" of G.

Redescription of Hemiclepsis quadrata (Moore, 1939) n. comb. (Hirudinea: Glossiphoniidae)
Systematic Parasitology, 1987Hemiclepsis quadrata, which is the only representative of the genus so far reported in Africa, is redescribed. Illustrations showing the diagnostic features of the taxon are provided for the first time. A thorough study of the holotype and one of the paratypes, as well as additional specimens, revealed that Moore overlooked certain important taxonomic ...
