Post-aspiration in standard Italian [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Voiceless geminate stops in Italian are typically described as unaspirated in all positions (e.g. [1, 2]). However, recent acoustic phonetic analysis of part of a corpus of standard Italian speech data has shown that the geminate voiceless stops /pp tt ...

How do clarinet players adjust the resonances of their vocal tracts for different playing effects

open access: yes, 2005
In a simple model, the reed of the clarinet is mechanically loaded by the series combination of the acoustical impedances of the instrument itself and of the player's vocal tract. Here we measure the complex impedance spectrum of players' tracts using an

Psychological Stress Detection in Speech Using Return-to-opening Phase Ratios in Glottis

open access: gold, 2015
This paper is focused on investigation of psychological stress in speech signal using shapes of normalised glottal pulses. The pulses were estimated by two algorithms: the Direct Inverse Filtering and Iterative and Adaptive Inverse Filtering.

Best Practices in Second Stage Labor Care: Maternal Bearing Down and Positioning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Despite evidence of adverse fetal and maternal outcomes from the use of sustained Valsalva bearing down efforts, current second-stage care practices are still characterized by uniform directions to “push” forcefully upon complete dilatation of the cervix

Comparing voiced and voiceless geminates in Sienese Italian: what role does preaspiration play? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper compares the acoustic phonetic appearance of voiced & voiceless geminate stops in Sienese Italian. In our spontaneous speech data voiceless geminate stops are frequently preaspirated, which is an extremely rare phenomenon cross-linguistically.

Tunicate‐Inspired Carboxymethyl Cellulose Hydrogel Filler for Treating Age‐Associated Vocal Fold Atrophy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The pyrogallol‐conjugated carboxymethylcellulose (CMC‐PG) hydrogel is applicated as a filler for the treatment of presbylaryngis, a vocal fold atrophy. CMC‐PG provides a bulking effect to the vocal folds. CMC‐PG is readily injectable and tissue adhesive, enabling sustained release of growth factor over long period.

GlottisNetV2: Temporal Glottal Midline Detection Using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine, 2023
High-speed videoendoscopy is a major tool for quantitative laryngology. Glottis segmentation and glottal midline detection are crucial for computing vocal fold-specific, quantitative parameters.
