Abstract In the summer of 1919, W. T. Goode, the Manchester Guardian’s special correspondent in Russia and the Baltic, was arrested in the Estonian capital Tallinn and briefly detained aboard a British warship. Abstract Forensic ballistics is essential in analyzing evidence from firearm use in criminal investigations, with gunshot residue (GSR) detection providing key information about the firearm and shooting conditions. Traditional methods like spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have limitations in sensitivity, cost, and accessibility ...

Habitat Features, Coyotes, and Humans Drive Diel Activity Variation Among Sympatric Mammals
We found that multiple mammal species show considerable variation in diel activity in response to several factors, with biotic variables (habitat features and the presence of coyotes Canis latrans) having the strongest overall effects. Our results have important implications for trophic dynamics. Future studies will need to account for these underlying

ABSTRACT Aim Neurofilament light chain (NFL) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) are known biomarkers of brain injury in adults, but their significance in very preterm (VPT) infants remains unclear. Given the strong link between inflammation, oxidative stress, and brain injury in this population, we investigated associations between NFL, GFAP ...

Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.

The characteristics of settlement of Neanderthals in northern Central Europe during the earlier phases of the Middle Palaeolithic (Marine Isotope Stage 8–6) have been a matter of debate for decades, specifically regarding the population dynamics at such latitudes during the coldest phases. In this paper, we review the known archaeological record of the
