Lin28A induces energetic switching to glycolytic metabolism in human embryonic kidney cells [PDF]
Background: Loss of a cell’s capacity to generate sufficient energy for cellular functions is a key hallmark of the ageing process and ultimately leads to a variety of important age-related pathologies such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease and ...

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Improvement of NADPH bioavailability in Escherichia coli through the use of phosphofructokinase deficient strains [PDF]
NADPH-dependent reactions play important roles in production of industrially valuable compounds. In this study, we used phosphofructokinase (PFK)-deficient strains to direct fructose-6-phosphate to be oxidized through the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP ...

This article presents a photo‐responsive nanoparticle platform that precisely triggers copper‐dependent cuproptotic cell death in (drug‐resistant) cancer cells. The system remains stable and inactive in the dark but releases cytotoxic species upon red‐light irradiation, achieving potent activity in drug‐resistant breast cancer cells.

Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency in Greece [PDF]
Abstract The glutathione stability of red cells was estimated in 40 patients during acute hemolysis induced by fava beans. There were wide individual differences but in all cases except one (Case 18) the post-incubation GSH fell to levels below 40 mg. per cent packed RBC which is the lower normal limit.

Subclinical urinary glucose concentration and screening test for significant bacteriuria: clinical evaluation of KAB-1 test paper [PDF]
Eighty-four cases including twenty-nine with significant bacte r iuria (colony count over 105/ ml) were studied on urinary glucose concentration by hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase method and KAB-1 test paper. Significant bacteriurias showed

Engineering of Glioblastoma‐Derived Biomimetic Vesicles and Their Structural and Molecular Features
ABSTRACT Biomimetic nanosystems and vesicles have arisen as a novel approach to design vesicular transport systems with diverse therapeutic potential. The ‘biomimetic’ strategy involves the integration of cell membrane components into lipid bilayers, conferring them with biological properties originating from the cell of origin. Until now, most studies
