Design of Glued Laminated Timber Columns

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1995
The column design criterion adopted in the 1991 National Design Specification (NDS) contains a parameter c that depends on homogeneity and straightness.

Effect of Lamination Anisotropy and Lay-Up in Glued-Laminated Timbers

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2005
This paper presents the analysis of glued-laminated timbers (glulam) subjected to tension perpendicular to the fiber direction, hereby taking into account the cylindrical anisotropy of the individual laminations and specific lay-up configurations. The investigations include two- and three-dimensional finite element analyses of prismatic specimens and ...

Efficient Fabrication of Glued-Laminated Timbers

Journal of the Structural Division, 1973
Fifty-four large glued-laminated timber beams were designed, fabricated, and tested to failure in static bending. Designs included several levels of moduli of elasticity (MOE) and rupture (MOR). Beams were made from lumber of Southern pine, Douglas fir, hem-fir, and Lodgepole pine; they were 40 ft (12 m) long, 5 in. (13 mm) wide, and 24 in.

Longitudinal Glued Laminated Timber Bridge Modeling

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1990
An analytical model developed to analyze a glued laminated longitudinal-deck highway bridge is described. The model employs a general purpose finite element program SAP IV. Data from the study were used in the development of design criteria. Experimental data were obtained by testing a full-scale bridge in the laboratory, and they were used to validate

Comparison of Modulus of Elasticity of Glued Laminated Timber

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
This article focuses on testing of glued laminated timber beams and researching their properties. The article mainly focuses on comparison of measured modulus of elasticity obtained by two different methods. First method used was method of spike which has non-destructive character.

Probabilistic Design of Performance in Glued Laminated Timber

1998
Because of the environmental adaptability and high strength—to-weight ratio. wood may be the most sustainable building material in the 21st century, though the large scatter of mechanical properties need to be reduced.

Bending Strength of Curved Glued Laminated Timber

Journal of the Structural Division, 1979
An ultimate load theory for curved glued laminated beams in bending is developed which is based on a simplified model of timber behavior. The bending strength of curved laminated beams compared with that of straight beams of identical cross section is shown to be dependent on the type of loading, the ratio of lamination thickness to radius of curvature,

THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE OF OUTDOOR UNDERCOVER GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER

World Conference on Timber Engineering 2025
The surface of glued laminated timber used in outdoor undercover conditions can deteriorate when exposed to the energy of heated air masses and to direct solar radiation. Knowledge of the in-service surface temperature of exposed glued laminated timber can help predict deterioration and improve structure performance.
