SCALING STUDY ON VISCOUS DAMPING FOR GLULAM AND HYBRID GLULAM-FRP BEAMS
World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE 2023), 2023Damping plays an important role in long-span, mass timber floors due to the relation it has to energy dissipation. Energy dissipation in these systems helps control how vibrations spread and whether its interaction with humans occupying the buildings causes discomfort or not. The present study focuses on the effect of scale on viscous damping in Glulam

Bamboo Reinforced Glulam Beams: An Alternative to CFRP Reinforced Glulam Beams
Advanced Materials Research, 2013A research study was undertaken to investigate the mechanical performance of glulam beams reinforced by CFRP or bamboo. Local reinforcement is proposed in order to improve the flexural strength of glulam beams. The glulam beam is strengthened in tension and along its sides with the carbon fiber-reinforced polymer CFRP or bamboo.

GLULAM REBORN : A flexible adhesive interface to increase the bending resistance of glulam
2008Since its invention in Germany a hundred years ago, glulam has been manufactured with stiff adhesives. The authors of this paper challenge this established rule and investigate the use of flexible adhesives. They work with the so-called " Gamma-Method " to study the load-bearing behaviour of such modified beams und propose that a single elastic ...

In quality control of glulam, shear testing of bondlines is required. However, in relevant standards the method of applying shear stress to the bondline is only exemplified by a principle schematic. Based on this schematic a considerable variety of test equipments is in use nowadays.
