Preservatives in non-cosmetic products: Increasing human exposure requires action for protection of health. [PDF]
The massive increase in use of preservatives is alarming. The substances in this study represent a ‘tip of the iceberg’. Urgent action is needed for protection of health. Knowledge about exposure to preservatives is mainly related to cosmetics, while use in non‐cosmetic products is broad, increasing and often undisclosed.

SAAP-148 Oligomerizes into a Hexamer Forming a Hydrophobic Inner Core. [PDF]
The highly cationic and hydrophobic antimicrobial peptide SAP‐148 effectively eradicates multidrug‐resistant bacteria, persistent cells, and biofilms without inducing resistance. Its efficiency is likely due to its ability to disrupt bacterial membranes as an oligomer, forming a stable alpha‐helical hexameric bundle with three parallel dimers that ...

Simple, fast, and validated UV‐spectrophotometric, HPLC, and GC methods for the analysis of benzalkonium chloride in a disinfectant were developed. UV‐spectrophotometric determination was based on measuring the amount of light absorption of aqueous solutions of benzalkonium chloride at 268 nm. HPLC determination was achieved with a 150 mm × 4.6 mm, 5.0

Improved methods for detection of β-galactosidase (lacZ) activity in hard tissue [PDF]
The ß-galactosidase gene (lacZ) of Escherichia coli is widely used as a reporter gene. The expression of lacZ can be detected by enzyme-based histochemical staining using chromogenic substrates such as 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-ß-D: -galactoside (X-gal).

Preparation and characterization of albumin-heparin microspheres [PDF]
Albumin-heparin microspheres were prepared by a two-step process which involved the preparation of a soluble albumin-heparin conjugate, followed by formation of microspheres from this conjugate or by a double cross-linking technique involving both ...

Effects of Imipramine and Lithium on the Suppression of Cell Proliferation in the Dentate Gyrus of the Hippocampus in Adrenocorticotropic Hormone-treated Rats [PDF]
We examined the influence of chronic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) treatment on the number of Ki-67-positive cells in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in rats. ACTH treatment for 14 days decreased the number of such cells.

Apigenin Protects Mouse Retina against Oxidative Damage by Regulating the Nrf2 Pathway and Autophagy
Oxidative stress is a critical factor in the pathology of age‐related macular degeneration (AMD). Apigenin (AP) is a flavonoid with an outstanding antioxidant activity. We had previously observed that AP protected APRE‐19 cells against oxidative injury in vitro.
