Development of a biosensor for glycated hemoglobin

Electrochimica Acta, 2007
Abstract The development of an electrochemical piezoelectric sensor for the detection of glycated hemoglobin is presented. The total hemoglobin (Hb) content is monitored with a mass-sensitive quartz crystal modified with surfactants, and the glycated fraction of the immobilized Hb is determined by subsequent voltammetric measurement of the coupled ...

Assessment of two glycated hemoglobin immunoassays

Endocrinología, Diabetes y Nutrición (English ed.), 2020
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level reflects chronic glycemic status if reliable tests are used, however, in some regions worldwide high performing assays might not be readily available. This study aimed to asses two HbA1c immunoassays, comparing them with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay, three methods available in Ecuador.HbA1c were ...

[5] Purification of glycated hemoglobin

1994
Publisher Summary The term glycohemoglobin (glycated hemoglobin) refers to hemoglobin that has been modified postribosomally by the attachment of glucose to the polypeptide chain. This modification, generically designated nonenzymatic glycation, is a condensation reaction between the carbohydrate and a free amino group at the amino terminus or ɛ ...

Glycated albumin and glycated hemoglobin levels in normal pregnancy

Biochemical Medicine and Metabolic Biology, 1988
Glycated albumin levels showed a progressive increase during normal pregnancy. The mean values (mole hexose/mole protein) were 1.68 +/- 0.27 (n = 15) in nonpregnant women, 1.83 +/- 0.21 (n = 11) in first trimester, 2.00 +/- 0.41 (n = 13) in second trimester, and 2.42 +/- 0.49 (n = 15) in third trimester.

Improved Estimation of Glycated Hemoglobin from Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Past Glycated Hemoglobin Data

Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, 2021
Background: Accurate estimation of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) remains challenging in clinic. We propose two statistical models and validate them in real-life conditions against the current standard, glucose management indicator (GMI).

Determination of glycated hemoglobin in clinically silent hemoglobin variants

Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, 2004
AbstractBackgroundEvaluation of glycated hemoglobin determination methods in patients with clinically silent hemoglobin variants.MethodsHbA1c results were determined with various methods, including a new enzymatic assay, a boronate affinity HPLC, immunoassays and ion‐exchange HPLC in patients with the clinically silent hemoglobin variants Hb Graz, Hb ...

Glycated Hemoglobin as a Measure of Physiological Stress

Behavioral Medicine, 1988
The concentration of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an integrated expression of the blood glucose concentration level in the previous weeks. The levels of HbA1c were measured in 23 medical students who had to pass an examination within a few weeks. Twelve other students served as a control group. Four months later, the blood tests were repeated.

Glycated hemoglobin as a marker of cardiovascular risk

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2006
Diabetes mellitus is an established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This review examines glycated hemoglobin, an indicator of long-term average blood glucose concentrations, in risk prediction for cardiovascular disease.Glycated hemoglobin concentrations predict cardiovascular disease risk in people with diabetes, and trial data suggest that ...

Fructosamine, glycated hemoglobin, and dietary carbohydrates

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2004
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA(1c)), a marker of glycemia in the previous 3 months, was found to be associated with dietary saturated, fat but not with carbohydrates, in recent population surveys. Another nonenzymatically glycated substance in the blood, fructosamine, a marker of glycemia in the previous 3 weeks, is poorly correlated with HbA(1c) in ...

Determination of glycated hemoglobin by affinity chromatography

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1987
An affinity chromatography microcolumn assay for glycated hemoglobin was compared with electrophoretic and microcolumn ion exchange methods. The affinity method has an imprecision of less than 4% for non-diabetic and less than 2% for diabetic specimens.
