Biological variability of glycated hemoglobin
Clinica Chimica Acta, 2010The measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA(1c)) has a pivotal role in monitoring glycemic state in diabetic patients. Furthermore, the American Diabetes Association has recently recommended the use of HbA(1c) for diabetes diagnosis, but a clear definition of the clinically allowable measurement error is still lacking.

Hemoglobin variants and determination of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c)
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, 2001Measurement of glycated hemoglobin in diabetic patients is an established procedure for evaluating long-term control of diabetes. The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), as well as the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS), confirmed the direct relationship between the degree of glycemic control as estimated by glycohemoglobin (

Assessment of two glycated hemoglobin immunoassays
Endocrinología, Diabetes y Nutrición (English ed.), 2020Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level reflects chronic glycemic status if reliable tests are used, however, in some regions worldwide high performing assays might not be readily available. This study aimed to asses two HbA1c immunoassays, comparing them with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay, three methods available in Ecuador.HbA1c were ...

[5] Purification of glycated hemoglobin
1994Publisher Summary The term glycohemoglobin (glycated hemoglobin) refers to hemoglobin that has been modified postribosomally by the attachment of glucose to the polypeptide chain. This modification, generically designated nonenzymatic glycation, is a condensation reaction between the carbohydrate and a free amino group at the amino terminus or ɛ ...

Development of a biosensor for glycated hemoglobin
Electrochimica Acta, 2007Abstract The development of an electrochemical piezoelectric sensor for the detection of glycated hemoglobin is presented. The total hemoglobin (Hb) content is monitored with a mass-sensitive quartz crystal modified with surfactants, and the glycated fraction of the immobilized Hb is determined by subsequent voltammetric measurement of the coupled ...

Glycated albumin and glycated hemoglobin levels in normal pregnancy
Biochemical Medicine and Metabolic Biology, 1988Glycated albumin levels showed a progressive increase during normal pregnancy. The mean values (mole hexose/mole protein) were 1.68 +/- 0.27 (n = 15) in nonpregnant women, 1.83 +/- 0.21 (n = 11) in first trimester, 2.00 +/- 0.41 (n = 13) in second trimester, and 2.42 +/- 0.49 (n = 15) in third trimester.

Background: Accurate estimation of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) remains challenging in clinic. We propose two statistical models and validate them in real-life conditions against the current standard, glucose management indicator (GMI).

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and outcome following endovascular thrombectomy for ischemic stroke
Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, 2019Background In ischemic stroke, increased glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and glucose levels are associated with worse outcome following thrombolysis, and possibly, endovascular thrombectomy.

Glycated Hemoglobin as a Measure of Physiological Stress
Behavioral Medicine, 1988The concentration of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an integrated expression of the blood glucose concentration level in the previous weeks. The levels of HbA1c were measured in 23 medical students who had to pass an examination within a few weeks. Twelve other students served as a control group. Four months later, the blood tests were repeated.
