Glycated hemoglobin as a marker of cardiovascular risk
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2006Diabetes mellitus is an established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This review examines glycated hemoglobin, an indicator of long-term average blood glucose concentrations, in risk prediction for cardiovascular disease.Glycated hemoglobin concentrations predict cardiovascular disease risk in people with diabetes, and trial data suggest that ...

Fructosamine, glycated hemoglobin, and dietary carbohydrates
Clinica Chimica Acta, 2004Glycated hemoglobin (HbA(1c)), a marker of glycemia in the previous 3 months, was found to be associated with dietary saturated, fat but not with carbohydrates, in recent population surveys. Another nonenzymatically glycated substance in the blood, fructosamine, a marker of glycemia in the previous 3 weeks, is poorly correlated with HbA(1c) in ...

Determination of glycated hemoglobin by affinity chromatography
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1987An affinity chromatography microcolumn assay for glycated hemoglobin was compared with electrophoretic and microcolumn ion exchange methods. The affinity method has an imprecision of less than 4% for non-diabetic and less than 2% for diabetic specimens.

Prevalence of auto-antibodies against D-ribose-glycated-hemoglobin in diabetes mellitus.
Glycobiology, 2019Glycation of biological macromolecules, due to hyperglycemia, promotes the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). It is accelerated in diabetic patients and is responsible for the pathophysiology and progression of diabetes.

Maternal and cord blood glycosylated hemoglobin levels were measured by an affinity chromatographic method in three groups: normal women (nondiabetic women who gave birth to infants that were normal for gestational age); test women (women who had no evidence of glucose intolerance with screening procedures and who gave birth to large-for-gestational ...

Structural changes in hemoglobin and glycation
Hemoglobin (Hb) is a hemeprotein found inside erythrocytes and is crucial in transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide in our bodies. In erythrocytes (Ery), the main energy source is glucose metabolized through glycolysis. However, a fraction of Hb can undergo glycation, in which a free amine group from the protein spontaneously binds to the carbonyl of ...Amanda Luise Alves Nascimento+5 more
