Diabetes Mellitus Facilitates Gallstone Formation Through CXCR2‐NETs–Mediated Liver‐Bile Barrier Damage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Diabetes is an independent risk factor for gallstones. It upregulates CXCR2 expression in hepatic neutrophils, stimulating the formation of NETs that disrupt hepatocellular tight junctions and the liver‐bile barrier. NETs enter bile to accelerate gallstone development, while sarcosine inhibits CXCR2 and NETs production, effectively reducing diabetes ...

Novel association of HK1 with glycated hemoglobin in a non-diabetic population: a genome-wide evaluation of 14,618 participants in the Women's Genome Health Study.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2008
Type 2 diabetes is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. While genetic variants have been found to influence the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, relatively few studies have focused on genes associated with glycated hemoglobin, an index of the ...

Glycated albumin is a better indicator for glucose levels than glycated hemoglobin in patients with diabetes mellitus on insulin therapy

open access: yesUniversa Medicina, 2020
Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with a large incidence in the world and constitutes a global health problem. By 2030 it is estimated that there will be around 439 million people suffering from DM. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic

Impact of Second-Line Combination Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Disease Control: A Population-Based Cohort Study

open access: yesDrugs - Real World Outcomes, 2023
Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease affecting millions of people worldwide. Achieving and maintaining glycemic control is essential to prevent or delay complications and different strategies are available as second-line treatment ...

Biomarkers of Glyco-Metabolic Control in Hemodialysis Patients: Glycated Hemoglobin vs. Glycated Albumin

open access: yesMedicina, 2021
Background and Objectives: Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) dosage is considered the gold standard in glycol-metabolic monitoring, but it presents limits, which can underestimate the glycemia trend. In this regard, it was introduced the glycated albumin (GA).

Functional Advantage of Central Pancreatectomy Over Distal Pancreatectomy for Benign or Low‐Grade Malignant Tumors: A Comparative Analysis Based on 75‐g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Central pancreatectomy (CP) better preserves postoperative pancreatic endocrine function than distal pancreatectomy for benign or low‐grade malignant tumors. The 75‐g oral glucose tolerance test demonstrated that CP maintained insulin secretion and glucose tolerance, highlighting its clinical advantage as a function‐preserving procedure.

Metabolic and biochemical profiling reveals phenotypic heterogeneity in Zucker diabetic fatty rats

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Genetically uniform Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) rats spontaneously develop four distinct metabolic phenotypes despite identical housing and diet conditions. Each phenotype exhibits unique biomarker signatures encompassing glucose homeostasis, insulin secretion, polyol pathway activation, oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and neurotrophic ...

An incidental finding of a hemoglobin E variant in a diabetic patient with an abnormal glycated hemoglobin level: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports
Background Glycated hemoglobin is a well-known marker for evaluating long-term glycemic control. However, the accuracy of glycated hemoglobin measurement can be affected by the presence of hemoglobin variants, which makes the determination and ...

Glycated hemoglobin and glycated albumin in patients with diabetes undergoing hemodiafiltration

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy, 2020
Background Online hemodiafiltration (OHDF), which results in high albumin leakage, is now widely used in Japan for dialysis, since the national insurance system began reimbursing its costs in 2012.

GLP‐1 agonists and the gut microbiome: A bidirectional relationship

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonists have transformed the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity, yet their interactions with the gut microbiome remain an emerging frontier in pharmacological and metabolic research.
