Comparison of the renal outcomes of novel antidiabetic agents in patients with type 2 diabetes with chronic kidney disease: A systematic review and network meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims To investigate the renal outcomes of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP‐4) inhibitors, glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonists, and sodium‐glucose transport protein‐2 (SGLT‐2) inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with chronic renal disease (CKD).

Enhanced mitochondrial respiration in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from young children with overweight/obesity and insulin resistance

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
We investigated measures of mitochondrial function in certain types of blood cells and metabolism in 65 children, 5–10 years old. Compared to children of normal weight (n = 20), children with overweight/obesity (n = 28) and especially those with insulin resistance (n = 17), differed in how their cells produced energy.

Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease, insulin resistance and hepatocellular carcinoma: A deadly triad

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a major global cause of liver disease, driven by obesity and insulin resistance (IR). IR promotes hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction, accelerating MASLD progression to fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Lipidomic profiling unveils sex differences in diabetes risk: Implications for precision medicine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
This study uncovered sex‐specific metabolic and lipidomic signatures of prediabetes. In PREVADIAB2 (n = 953), clustering by insulin traits revealed four phenotypes. Lipidomics showed women enriched in dihydroceramides and sphingomyelins, while men displayed a higher ceramide/sphingomyelin ratio. These sex‐metabolic phenotypes expose distinct lipidomes,
