Production of glycerol carbonate by coupling glycerol and CO2 over various metal oxide catalyst

open access: yesJournal of CO2 Utilization
A series of metal oxides, i.e., CuO、NiO、Co3O4、ZrO2、Al2O3, catalysts were prepared by hydrothermal method and evaluated in the production of glycerol carbonate by coupling of glycerol and CO2 under lower temperature.

Electrochemical Formation of BiVO4/BiPO4 Photoanodes for Enhanced Selectivity toward H2O2 Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In acidic KPi, V dissolves from the BiVO4 lattice, while adsorbed phosphate reacts with the electrode under an external bias, forming a BiPO4 surface layer. This BiPO4 layer exhibits stronger bicarbonate adsorption, redirecting the water oxidation pathway toward two‐electron H2O2 production.

Reactive pervaporation for valorisation of glycerol as glycerol carbonate

open access: yes, 2022
Glycerol carbonate (GC) production plays an indispensable role in the valorisation of glycerol, which is a by-product of the production of biodiesels [1, 2]. The transesterification reaction of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) produces glycerol carbonate and methanol (MeOH) as by-product.

Fast method for the determination of short-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (scl-PHAs) in bacterial samples by In Vial-Thermolysis (IVT) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
none8siA new method based on the GC–MS analysis of thermolysis products obtained by treating bacterial samples at a high temperature (above 270 C) has been developed.

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

Synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate catalyzed by NaOH/γ-Al2O3

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology, 2013
Abstract The NaOH/γ-Al2O3 as catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate via transesterification of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) has been developed in this work. It was found that NaOH/γ-Al2O3 was a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate and the catalyst can be easily recovered and recycled ...

Mineral reconnaissance at the Highland boundary with special reference to the Loch Lomond and Aberfoyle areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Serpentinite bodies at the Highland Boundary in the Loch Lomond and Aberfoyle areas are extensively altered to magnesite-quartz and ferroan-dolomite-quartz rocks. Silicification was probably initiated before conversion to carbonate.

Poly(hydroxyalkanoate) production by Cupriavidus necator from fatty waste can be enhanced by phaZ1 inactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PHA production from waste oils or fats requires microorganisms that should be both excellent PHA producers and equipped with enzymatic activities allowing hydrolysation of triglycerides.
