Biotransformation of Glyceryl Trinitrate and Elevation of Cyclic GMP Precede Glyceryl Trinitrate-Induced Vasodilation

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1990
In this study, we examined glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) biotransformation and cyclic GMP elevation in vascular smooth muscle before onset of GTN-induced relaxation. Isolated rabbit aortic strips (RAS) and strips of bovine pulmonary artery (BPA) and bovine pulmonary vein (BPV) were contracted submaximally and incubated with [3H]GTN.

Bioavailability and Pharmacokinetic Profile of Glyceryl Trinitrate and of Glyceryl Dinitrates during Application of a New Glyceryl Trinitrate Transdermal Patch

Arzneimittelforschung, 2011
The pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of glyceryl trinitrate (GTN, CAS 55-63-0) and of its main metabolites, i.e. 1,2-glyceryl dinitrate (1,2-GDN, CAS 621-65-8) and 1,3-glyceryl dinitrate (1,3-GDN, CAS 623-87-0), were compared during a single 24-h application of a new GTN transdermal patch (Epinitril 10, hereinafter called EPI-10) or a reference ...

Toxicity of combinations of glyceryl trinitrate and sympathomimetics

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1970
Abstract Intraperitoneal injections of glyceryl trinitrate daily for 14 days did not alter the intravenous toxicity of dl-, d-, or l-epinephrine, nor of isoproterenol injected 1–3 days later. There was a decrease in toxicity of dl- or l-epinephrine injected 2 min after glyceryl trinitrate.

Activation of trigeminovascular neurons by glyceryl trinitrate

Brain Research, 2000
The effect of intra-carotid arterial infusions of glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), a substance known to precipitate headache, including migraine, upon the spontaneous activity of trigeminal neurons with craniovascular input was studied in cats. Second-order craniovascular neurons which received sensory input from the superior sagittal sinus were recorded in ...

Glyceryl Trinitrate in Angina Pectoris

JAMA, 1964
Despite universal belief in the efficacy of glyceryl trinitrate (nitroglycerin) for the treatment of angina pectoris, some investigators have challenged the validity of clinical impression and declared the drug to be inert. That it is capable of preventing pain as well as ischemic electrocardiographic changes following standard exercise by patients ...

ERYTHRODERMA DUE TO PERITRATE AND GLYCERYL TRINITRATE

British Journal of Dermatology, 1972
Summary.— Cutaneous sensitivity to peritrate (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) and glyceryl trinitrate is described, having developed simultaneously, despite the fact that the patient had previously taken drugs without mishap for 10 years.
