Transport of spheres suspended in the fluid flowing between hexagonally arranged cylinders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The motion of a spherical particle suspended in an incompressible Newtonian fluid flowing longitudinally between hexagonally arranged circular cylinders has been numerically analysed by a finite-element method in the Stokes flow regime.

Vasoreactivity as a Measure of Kidney Viability During Ex Vivo Normothermic Machine Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the influence of warm ischemic injury on renal vascular responsiveness to vasoactive drugs during normothermic machine perfusion (NMP). We found that the vascular responses to dopamine and norepinephrine could be used as objective indicators to assess kidney viability during NMP.

Characterization, cloning and immunogenicity of antigens released by transforming cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A schistosome infection is initiated when the parasite penetrates the skin of a susceptible host. Relatively large quantities of protein are released by transforming cercariae compared to later larval stages.

FKBP5 Mediates Alveolar Fibroblast Necroptosis During Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Structure diagram of alveolar fibroblast activation in septic ARDS model. FKBP5‐mediated alveolar fibroblast necroptosis, leading to the activation of NF‐κB signalling and the secretion of cytokines and the recruitment of neutrophils, and further orchestrating the inflammatory environment of the alveolar epithelia in septic ARDS.

Endothelial barrier dysfunction in diabetic conduit arteries: a novel method to quantify filtration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The endothelial barrier plays an important role in atherosclerosis, hyperglycemia, and hypercholesterolemia. In the present study, an accurate, reproducible, and user-friendly method was used to further understand endothelial barrier function of conduit ...

Influenza A Virus (H1N1) Infection Induces Ferroptosis to Promote Developmental Injury in Fetal Tissues

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
H1N1 infection during pregnancy specifically targets the fetal liver and lungs, triggering immune responses, tissue fibrosis and ferroptosis in parenchymal cells, ultimately leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes, offering insights into managing maternal H1N1 infections and their impact on fetal health.

Diagnostic Performance of Prothrombin Time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in Children: A Service Evaluation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Coagulation screening, consisting of prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial prothrombin time (aPTT), is routinely performed in paediatrics to identify bleeding disorders or guide peri‐procedural management. We evaluated the trends in utilisation and diagnostic yield of PT and aPTT testing as part of coagulation screening in a ...
