Hemoglobin E disease and glycosylated hemoglobin
Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) is a routinely measured parameter to monitor long-term glycemic control in people with diabetes mellitus. The presence of hemoglobin (Hb) variants can affect the accuracy of HbA1C methods. Hb E variant is the most common Hb variant in South-east Asia and North-east India.

In vitro determination of hemoglobin A1c for diabetes diagnosis and management: technology update [PDF]
It is fascinating to consider the analytical improvements that have occurred since glycated hemoglobin was first used in routine clinical laboratories for diabetes monitoring around 1977; at that time methods displayed poor precision, there were no ...

Abstract We examined the effect of fetal hemoglobin and labile glycosylated hemoglobin on a number of diverse methods used to measure glycosylated hemoglobin. Samples were supplemented with various amounts of cord blood to give proportions of fetal hemoglobin ranging from 1 to 20% of total hemoglobin concentration.

Glycosylated Hemoglobins In Friedreich's Ataxia [PDF]
SUMMARY:In a study of glycosylated hemoglobins in Friedreich's Ataxia patients and in family members, the level was found to be higher in insulin dependent diabetics than in healthy non-diabetic control subjects (p<0.01), but was similar to non-ataxic diabetic control subjects.

Mechanistic Insight into the Enzymatic Reduction of Truncated Hemoglobin N of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: role of the CD loop and pre-A Motif in electron cycling [PDF]
Background: The HbN of Mycobacterium tuberculosis carries a potent nitric-oxide dioxygenase activity despite lacking a reductase domain. Results: The NADH-ferredoxin reductase system acts as an efficient partner for the reduction of HbN.

Variability in genes regulating vitamin D metabolism is associated with vitamin D levels in type 2 diabetes [PDF]
Mortality rate is increased in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Low vitamin D levels are associated with increased mortality risk in T2D. In the general population, genetic variants affecting vitamin D metabolism (DHCR7 rs12785878, CYP2R1 rs10741657, GC rs4588 ...
