Reduction of glycyrrhizic acid

The reduction of glycyrrhizic acid by NaBH4 and LiAlH4 was studied. The conditions for the selective reduction of the COOH groups of the carbohydrate chain and the C(11)=0 group of aglycon were found.

Effect of Glycyrrhizic Acid on Lappaconitine Phototransformation

1H NMR and CIDNP methods were used to demonstrate that triterpene glycoside (glycyrrhizic acid, GA) can substantially change the efficiency and direction of phototransformation of alkaloid lappaconitine (LA) due to both its solubilization in GA micelles and protonation of LA amine nitrogen in water-alcohol solutions.

Some properties of glycyrrhizic acid

The chemical and spectral properties of crystalline specimens of glycyrrhizic acid and its monoammonium salt have been studied. On the basis of1H and13C NMR results, diagnostic parameters of the 18β/18α-epimers have been revealed, and features of the structure of the carbohydrate moiety of these compounds are discussed.
