A simplified voltage model in GMAW
Welding in the World, 2020The relation between the voltage and the arc length in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is an important characteristic. It determines the power transfer to a large extent, and its knowledge allows the control of the process. However, the voltage depends on a complex distribution of the electric conductivity along the current path and does not depend on the

Monitoring of weld defects of visual sensing assisted GMAW process with galvanized steel
, 2021Due to the existence of high-temperature and high-pressure zinc vapor in the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process of galvanized steel, it is difficult to achieve accurate and real-time detection of weld defects, which brings great challenges to robotic ...

Stand off's indirect estimation in GMAW
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004Abstract This work was aimed at developing a methodology for the estimation of the contact tip-to-workpiece distance (stand off) in the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process. The proposed methodology was based on the measurement of the electrical resistance between the contact tip and the workpiece during the short circuits in the dip transfer mode of

Droplet Tracking in Double-Electrode GMAW
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Controlled metal transfer in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and its modifications including the double-electrode GMAW implies controllable heat and mass inputs and better assured weld quality. To understand, analyze, and control the metal transfer process, the droplet should be monitored in real time.

HAZ softening behavior of strain-hardened Al-6.7Mg alloy welded by GMAW and pulsed GMAW processes
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2017Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process was used to weld plates of strain-hardened Al-6.7Mg alloy. It was observed that HAZ softening issue occurred extensively for the current material using the GMAW process. So, as a solution, pulsed current was employed and the plates were welded by pulsed GMAW (PGMAW) process. The effects of peak current (93, 120, 140,

Understanding fume formation by GMAW
The control of exposure to welding fume is necessary to meet health and safety obligations. The work reported here is a continuation of a successful Cooperative Research Centre project, that has revealed how two different mechanisms are responsible for generation of fume in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).Deam, R. +9 more

Multiple-Wire Welding GMAW and SAW
2019This chapter presents the developments in multiple-wire welding from the technology and research perspectives. The multiple-wire welding uses more than one electrode, in which the electrodes travel simultaneously with the same or different feed rates through a joint contact tube.

Droplet measurement in laser enhanced GMAW
Proceedings of 2011 International Conference on Modelling, Identification and Control, 2011In the laser enhanced gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process developed recently, droplets of melted metal can be detached from the wire under relatively low currents with the assistance of an auxiliary force provided by a laser. The stability and the arc and the quality of the resultant welds are improved.

Thick plates of 5083 aluminum alloy are welded with GMAW and GMAW-TW processes; the influence of weld pool convection on porosity formation, microstructure, and mechanical property of the welding joints is investigated. The results showed that due to the appearance of outward flow and “push-pull” patterns, and intense mixing and stirring effects in ...
