Complexion‐Mediated Dislocation Transfer Enables Exceptional Strength‐Toughness Synergy in Multicomponent‐Alloy Bonded Hardmetal

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The inherent brittleness of hardmetals stems from the rigid covalent bond in the ceramic matrix and the sharp ceramic/metal interface, which restricts the nucleation and motion of dislocations. In this study, a novel strategy is proposed to activate significant dislocation behaviors in the WC matrix by employing a non‐equiatomic CoNiFeCr ...

Enriched model categories and an application to additive endomorphism spectra

open access: yes, 2007
We define the notion of an additive model category, and we prove that any additive, stable, combinatorial model category has a natural enrichment over symmetric spectra based on simplicial abelian groups.

Density-based crystal plasticity : from the discrete to the continuum

open access: yes, 2016
Because of the enormous range of time and space scales involved in dislocation dynamics, plastic modeling at macroscale requires a continuous formulation.

High‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior and Deformation Mechanisms of Al0.5CoCrFeNi High‐Entropy Alloy by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) can fabricate high‐entropy alloys (HEAs) with refined microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties. However, the deformation and fatigue mechanisms of Al‐containing HEAs produced by LPBF remain unclear. In this work, we systematically investigate the tensile properties, deformation mechanisms, and high‐cycle

Terrain Classification for Planetary Rovers Using Wireless In‐Wheel Sensor Modules and Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 1884-1904, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Safe and reliable mobility over different kinds of ground is important for planetary rovers on space missions. Since terrain changes might affect the mobility of the rover, energy consumption, and safety, detecting the type of ground in real‐time is vital.

Substitution of Ti by Nb in Maraging Steel: Effects on Strengthening Mechanisms and Crystallographic Behavior

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 5, Page 2672-2692, May 2026.
This work demonstrates that replacing Ti with Nb in maraging steel forms nanoscale Nb–Mo particles along boundaries, strengthening the alloy without relying on Ti phases. Heat‐treatment tuning promotes uniform crystal orientation and balanced grain boundaries, enabling strong yet ductile behavior.

Intrinsic Hardness Evolution and Indentation Size Effect Modeling in Cu/Co Doped ZnO, TiO2, and SnO2

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Metal oxides such as ZnO, TiO2, and SnO2 are widely used in structural and functional applications; however, their micromechanical performance is often limited by pronounced indentation size effects and surface‐related deformation behavior.

Crystal Plasticity Modeling of Dislocation Density Evolution in Cellular Dislocation Structures

open access: yesMetals
The complex thermal cycles during the solidification process in metal additive manufacturing (AM) lead to the formation of high-density dislocation networks, organizing into submicron-scale cellular structures.
