A Multi‐Scale Approach to Assessing Positioning Accuracy in High‐Density Urban Environments of Hong Kong

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examined GPS positioning accuracy in high‐density urban environments using Hong Kong as a representative case study. Through field measurements along 32 testing routes using three GPS devices, we evaluated GPS performance across diverse urban morphologies to assess associations between complex urban characteristics and positioning ...

Seismic Velocity Variations, Ground Deformation and the Role of Fluids During a Low‐Energy Seismic Swarm

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract On March 9th $9\mathrm{th}$, 2023, three small earthquakes (3.8≤Mw≤4.5) $(3.8\le {M}_{w}\le 4.5)$ occurred near Umbertide (Central Italy), within 4 hours. Analyzing seismic ambient noise in the frequency band 0.1–1 Hz from six seismometers within 20 km of the Mw 4.5, we detect a significant drop in seismic velocity at the time of occurrence of

Evaluating SWOT in the Coastal Zone: Comparisons With Tide Gauge and Airborne LiDAR in the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary, UK

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract Traditional nadir altimeters struggle with coastal water surface elevation (WSE) measurement and fine‐scale river‐estuary interactions, due to land‐water signal interference and their wide inter‐track spacing. The wide‐swath Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, using a new Ka‐band radar interferometer, aims to address these ...

Origin of Intense Plasma Depletions After Midnight Over the Korean Peninsula During the Geomagnetic Storm on 11 May 2024

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract A band of total electron content (TEC) depletions of about 5–15 TEC unit passed over the Korean Peninsula after midnight during the geomagnetic storm on 11 May 2024. This magnitude of TEC depletions has not been previously reported in the region.

Direct Observational Evidence of the Mesoscale Gravity Wave Modulations on Low‐Latitude Sporadic E Layer

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract Sporadic E (Es) layer plays essential role in ionosphere‐atmosphere coupling. Theoretical simulations show that the atmospheric gravity waves (GWs) in the lower thermosphere are the main modulatory source on Es dynamics at small spatial scales and short periods.
