Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Commentary on Notification and Recordkeeping of Occupational Mesothelioma in India

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In India, some occupational diseases are notifiable under the Mines Act, 1952, and the Factories Act, 1948. Mesothelioma, primarily attributable to asbestos exposure, has been listed specifically as one of the notifiable diseases under the Mines Act, 1952, and is notifiable under the category of occupational cancer in the Factories Act, 1948 ...

Single vortices observed as they enter NbSe$_2$

open access: yes, 2003
We observe single vortices as they penetrate the edge of a superconductor using a high-sensitivity magneto-optical microscope. The vortices leap across a gap near the edge, a distance that decreases with increasing applied field and sample thickness ...

Homologous and unique G protein alpha subunits in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A cDNA corresponding to a known G protein alpha subunit, the alpha subunit of Go (Go alpha), was isolated and sequenced. The predicted amino acid sequence of C. elegans Go alpha is 80-87% identical to other Go alpha sequences.

Unfused transverse foramen of the atlas vertebra in the Neandertal lineage fossils

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In anatomically modern humans, the atlas can display an unfused transverse foramen (UTF) but currently the presence of UTF in the Neandertal lineage is uncertain due to a scarcity of prevalence studies and no exhaustive record of its presence throughout the entire hominin fossil record.

G protein-coupled receptor kinase-2 (GRK-2) regulates serotonin metabolism through the monoamine oxidase AMX-2 in Caenorhabditis elegans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) regulate many animal behaviors. GPCR signaling is mediated by agonist-promoted interactions of GPCRs with heterotrimeric G proteins, GPCR kinases (GRKs), and arrestins.

Review of recent advances in the design, synthesis, and modification of biochar for remediation of heavy metal pollution in water

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Research frontiers in using biochar for heavy metal remediation. Abstract Heavy metal contamination of water has long been a serious environmental issue. Biochar and biochar‐based composites are emerging as effective and sustainable solutions for heavy metal removal due to their strong adsorption abilities and environmentally friendly nature.
