Contributions of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex to goal-directed action selection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this article, it will be argued that one of the key contributions of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) to goal-directed action selection lies both in retrieving the value of goals that are the putative outcomes of the decision process and in ...

A Goal-Directed Implementation of Query Answering for Hybrid MKNF Knowledge Bases

open access: yes, 2012
Ontologies and rules are usually loosely coupled in knowledge representation formalisms. In fact, ontologies use open-world reasoning while the leading semantics for rules use non-monotonic, closed-world reasoning.

Hippocampal theta phases organize the reactivation of large-scale electrophysiological representations during goal-directed navigation

open access: yesScience Advances, 2019
Hippocampal theta cycles provide a means to maintain and segregate different goal representations during human wayfinding. Humans are adept in simultaneously following multiple goals, but the neural mechanisms for maintaining specific goals and ...

Construction of hyperthermostable d‐allulose 3‐epimerase from Arthrobacter globiformis M30 using the sequence information from Arthrobacter psychrolactophilus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
d‐Allulose can be produced from d‐fructose by d‐allulose 3‐epimerase. Based on sequence homology information, we successfully engineered thermostable mutants with the protein engineering method. By integrating positive mutations, we constructed an enzyme that exhibits hyperthermostability without a loss in the activity.

The effect of ratio and interval training on Pavlovian-instrumental transfer in mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Conditional stimuli (CS) that are paired with reward can be used to motivate instrumental responses. This process is called Pavlovian-instrumental transfer (PIT).

Tactile suppression in goal-directed movement [PDF]

open access: yesPsychonomic Bulletin & Review, 2016
Sharing numerous characteristics with suppression in the other senses, tactile suppression is a reliable phenomenon that accompanies movement. By investigating the simplest of movements (e.g., finger flexions), early research tried to explain the origins of the phenomenon in terms of motor command generation together with sensory reafference.

Understanding and Overcoming Immunotherapy Resistance in Skin Cancer: Mechanisms and Strategies

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This narrative review explores the mechanisms driving immunotherapy resistance in skin cancer, including tumor microenvironment factors, genetic mutations, and immune evasion strategies. It highlights potential strategies to overcome resistance, offering insights for improving therapeutic outcomes and guiding future research in personalized ...

Neuroimaging of Habit-based vs. Goal-directed behavior in Instrumental Learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Addiction has been proposed to result from an overreliance on the habit-based and goal-directed controllers of behavior; however, few data exist to simultaneously support both behavioral and neuoranatomical aspects of this theory in humans.

Prefrontal Corticostriatal Disconnection Blocks the Acquisition of Goal-Directed Action

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2018
The acquisition of goal-directed action requires encoding of the association between an action and its specific consequences or outcome. At a neural level, this encoding has been hypothesized to involve a prefrontal corticostriatal circuit involving the ...

Crime Against History: Slavery, Race, and the 1776 Report

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the 2025 executive order, “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K‐12 Schooling,” the Trump administration reestablished the 1776 Commission, which produced The 1776 Report. This article argues that this report, which is an unsubtle response to The 1619 Project, reveals how White Christian Nationalists wish to mandate that a hyper‐patriotic ...
