Integrating Density Functional Theory Modeling with Experimental Data to Understand and Predict Sorption Reactions: Exchange of Salicylate for Phosphate on Goethite

open access: yesSoil Systems, 2020
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are a quantum mechanical approach that can be used to model chemical reactions on an atomistic scale. DFT provides predictions on structures, thermodynamics, spectroscopic parameters and kinetics that can be ...

Influencing factors and environmental effects of interactions between goethite and organic matter: A critical review

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
This paper reviews progresses in the interactions between goethite and organic matter (OM) and their environmental effects in recent decades. The interactions mainly include the effect of organic matter on the surface properties and the crystallization ...

Changes in dissolved iron deposition to the oceans driven by human activity: a 3-D global modelling study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The global atmospheric iron (Fe) cycle is parameterized in the global 3-D chemical transport model TM4-ECPL to simulate the proton- and the organic ligand-promoted mineral-Fe dissolution as well as the aqueous-phase photochemical reactions between the ...

Mineralogy of the clay fraction of alfisols in two slope curvatures: IV - spatial correlation with physical properties

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2013
Although the influence of clay mineralogy on soil physical properties has been widely studied, spatial relationships between these features in Alfisols have rarely been examined.

Effects of Flavin-Goethite Interaction on Goethite Reduction by Shewanella decolorationis S12 [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and riboflavin are structurally similar flavins, except for the presence of a phosphate group on the FMN molecule. They are used by a variety of electroactive bacteria as extracellular electron shuttles in microbial Fe reduction and inevitably interact with Fe (hydr)oxides in the extracellular environment.

Ferromanganese nodules and micro-hardgrounds associated with the Cadiz Contourite Channel (NE Atlantic): Palaeoenvironmental records of fluid venting and bottom currents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ferromanganese nodule fields and hardgrounds have recently been discovered in the Cadiz Contourite Channel in the Gulf of Cadiz (850–1000 m). This channel is part of a large contourite depositional system generated by the Mediterranean Outflow Water ...

Direct Formation of Structural Components Using a Martian Soil Simulant. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Martian habitats are ideally constructed using only locally available soils; extant attempts to process structural materials on Mars, however, generally require additives or calcination.

Comparative dissolution of natural goethite samples in HCl and HNO3

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2009
The dissolution of goethite samples in mineral acids from to extreme parts of Nigeria (Osogbo and Kaduna) have been investigated. The rate of dissolution was found to be slightly faster in HCl than HNO3.

Using aircraft measurements to determine the refractive index of Saharan dust during the DODO Experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Much uncertainty in the value of the imaginary part of the refractive index of mineral dust contributes to uncertainty in the radiative effect of mineral dust in the atmosphere.
