Integrative architecture and structural boundaries of the subdigital adhesive toe pads of Gekko gecko (Linnaeus, 1758) and guidelines for toe pad demarcation in other geckos

The adhesively competent toe pads of Gekko gecko (and other geckos) are delimited by a combination of external and deep anatomical features and cannot be identified based upon external scale form alone. We encourage future investigators to delimit toe pads in this functionally and anatomically meaningful fashion.
