Towards a Transformation of Gold Panning on the Tangonie Site, Burkina Faso

open access: yesModern Geográfia
Mining in Burkina Faso is characterized by both industrial and artisanal mining, commonly referred to as gold panning. In recent years, gold panning has taken on a different form from that described in numerous scientific publications.

Panning for molecular gold in whipworm genomes [PDF]

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2014
Two new studies report genomic data on three species of whipworm, soil-transmitted parasitic worms responsible for trichuriasis. These genomes provide insights into host-pathogen interactions and potential for new drug targets for helminth therapy.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Effect of artisanal gold mining on woody plant diversity in Western Burkina Faso

open access: yesScientific African
Although artisanal gold mining strongly contribute to enhance people incomes in West Africa, this activity can lead to habitat fragmentation and loss of woody species.

Panning for gold in a hot flowing stream [PDF]

open access: yesGold Bulletin, 2010
Thin-gold films have been laid down on the inner surface of borosilicate capillaries using a variety of deposition techniques and the resultant film composition and morphology has been evaluated using energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, respectively.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Ruées vers l’or au Soudan, au Tchad et au Sahel : logiques étatiques, mobilités et contrôle territorial

open access: yesBulletin de l’Association de Géographes Français, 2018
This article describes and analyses the gold rushes that have affected the Sahel and the Sahara in recent years. It focuses on the forms and factors of panning, and then on the dithering of State policies: Governments are indeed hesitating between the ...

ADP‐ribosylation: An emerging regulator of the epigenome

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ADP‐ribosylation has emerged as a dynamic epigenetic signaling mechanism that modifies histones and chromatin‐associated proteins. Through coordinated PARylation and MARylation, it integrates with other histone modifications to regulate chromatin structure, transcription factor activity, and gene expression, influencing genome function and disease ...

Orpaillage et recomposition des systèmes d’activités rurales au sud-ouest du Tchad

open access: yesEchoGéo
This article analyses the reshaping of rural activity systems linked to gold panning in Mayo Dallah, south-west Chad. The area is rich in gold and mining has intensified in recent years, attracting people from a variety of backgrounds.
