On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

Performance of different photocathode materials in a liquid argon purity monitor [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Purity monitor devices are increasingly used in noble gas time projection chambers to measure the lifetime of drifting electrons. Purity monitors work by emitting electrons from a photocathode material via the photoelectric effect. The electrons are then drifted towards an anode by means of an applied electric drift field.

Crosstalk between gut microbiota and tumor: tumors could cause gut dysbiosis and metabolic imbalance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this research, we analyzed the relationship between gut microbiota and tumor. We discovered that both subcutaneous and metastatic tumors would alter the composition and metabolic function of gut microbiota. Meanwhile, fecal microbiota transplantation also indicated the anti‐tumor role of the gut microbiota, revealing the crosstalk between tumor and ...

Evaluation of CareStart™ Malaria HRP2/pLDH (Pf/pan) Combo Test in a malaria low transmission region of Senegal

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2017
Background This study was initiated from the observation that prevalence of malaria obtained with rapid diagnostic test (RDT) (CareStart™Malaria HRP2/pLDH Combo Test) was higher than in microscopy in a malaria low transmission area of Senegal.

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Estimating predictive value of tests without having a Gold Standard: the concept of Etiologic Predictive Value (EPV) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Patients with infectious diseases often require the use of microbiologic diagnostic tests. Predictive value of tests are used to describe the usefulness of a diagnostic test in a specific setting.

Tropical Group Testing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing is the gold standard for diagnosing COVID-19. PCR amplifies the virus DNA 40 times to produce measurements of viral loads that span seven orders of magnitude. Unfortunately, the outputs of these tests are imprecise and therefore quantitative group testing methods, which rely on precise measurements, are not ...
