Should the basophil activation test be the gold standard in the diagnosis of food allergies? [PDF]
Background The basophil activation test (BAT) is an in vitro test which allows to identify children with food allergies at the sensitization stage and clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis\\eczema (AD). The aim of our study was to observe the BAT in children with food allergies, optimize the diagnosis compared with other tests, and select an ...

The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.

Exposing ambiguities in a relation-extraction gold standard with crowdsourcing [PDF]
Semantic relation extraction is one of the frontiers of biomedical natural language processing research. Gold standards are key tools for advancing this research. It is challenging to generate these standards because of the high cost of expert time and the difficulty in establishing agreement between annotators. We implemented and evaluated a microtask

MetaBayesDTA: Codeless Bayesian meta-analysis of test accuracy, with or without a gold standard [PDF]
Introduction: Despite their applicability, statistical models used for the meta-analysis of test accuracy require specialised knowledge to implement, with the necessary level of expertise having recently increased. This is due to the development and recommendation to use more sophisticated methods; such as those in Version 2 of the Cochrane Handbook ...
