TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Building an Evaluation Scale using Item Response Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Evaluation of NLP methods requires testing against a previously vetted gold-standard test set and reporting standard metrics (accuracy/precision/recall/F1). The current assumption is that all items in a given test set are equal with regards to difficulty and discriminating power.

A Physiologically-Adapted Gold Standard for Arousal during Stress [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Emotion is an inherently subjective psychophysiological human-state and to produce an agreed-upon representation (gold standard) for continuous emotion requires a time-consuming and costly training procedure of multiple human annotators. There is strong evidence in the literature that physiological signals are sufficient objective markers for states of

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

Comparative Performance Evaluation of Routine Malaria Diagnosis at Ho Municipal Hospital

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, 2016
Differences in quality performance score had been reported for the routinely used diagnostic methods for malaria at different settings. There is therefore a need to evaluate the test performance of the routine diagnostic methods for malaria detection in ...

Automatic Scoring of Cognition Drawings: Assessing the Quality of Machine-Based Scores Against a Gold Standard [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Figure drawing is often used as part of dementia screening protocols. The Survey of Health Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) has adopted three drawing tests from Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III as part of its questionnaire module on cognition.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Validity and Reliability of Devices Measuring Countermovement Vertical Jump Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The counter-movement jump (CMJ) test is a standard measure of lower body power and can be related to other aspects of athletic performance. With many tools commercially available, it can be difficult for professionals to distinguish which device provides

How reliable are Hanle measurements in metals in a three-terminal geometry? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We test the validity of Hanle measurements in three-terminal devices by using aluminum (Al) and gold (Au). The obtained Hanle and inverted Hanle-like curves show an anomalous behavior.
